According to NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory, a 213-meter-wide asteroid named 2022 OE02, which is larger than the Statue of Unity (182 metres), is expected to come as close to Earth as 5.1 million kilometres.
The asteroid has been classified by NASA as a potentially hazardous asteroid, which means it is a near-Earth Object (NEO) that poses a significant threat to the planet.
With a slight deviation in its current trajectory, the asteroid could be hurtling towards Earth.
Scientists are confident that the asteroid will pass Earth safely because the distance, roughly 13 times the average distance between Earth and the moon, is far too great to bridge.
As previously reported by WION, a massive 1,600-foot-wide asteroid larger than the Empire State Building whizzed past the Earth earlier this year in May.
Scientists were also concerned about the asteroid's trajectory at the time.
